4x4 & Overlanding (“we”, “us”, “the site”) is operated by 7Arx, a registered Australian business name based in Queensland, Australia, for a United States audience. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it deliberately specific to what this site actually does, because the honest answer is that a content site like this collects very little about you.
The Short Version
We do not sell your personal information. We do not require you to create an account. We do not knowingly collect anything from children. The main data involved is privacy-respecting website analytics that only runs after you consent, standard hosting logs, whatever you type into our contact or checklist-signup forms, a few small browser-only preferences that never leave your device, and the affiliate cookies that retailers like Amazon set when you click a link so a qualifying purchase can be credited to us at no extra cost to you.
Information We Collect
Information you give us. If you use our contact form or the checklist-pack signup form, we receive whatever you choose to send — typically your name and email address, and for the contact form, your message. Both forms are handled by Netlify Forms: your submission is transmitted to and stored by Netlify, our hosting provider, and routed to our editorial inbox. We do not yet use a separate email marketing platform (ESP) for the checklist-pack list; if we add one, we will name it here before we do.
Information collected automatically. Our host, Netlify, keeps standard server/hosting logs for every request (IP address, user agent, timestamp, requested URL) as part of running the site and detecting abuse. Separately, once you consent to analytics via our cookie banner, Google Analytics 4 (and, where enabled, Google Tag Manager) records aggregated usage data — the pages you view, your approximate location from a truncated IP address, browser and device type, and the site or search that referred you — using Google Consent Mode v2, described further below.
We do not run user accounts, ask for payment details, or store any financial information on this site. When you buy a product, that transaction happens entirely on the retailer’s own website (for example, Amazon), under their privacy policy — not ours.
Browser-Only Features (Never Sent To Us)
Several interactive features on this site — My Rig (your saved vehicle, tire size and lift height), the printable checklists’ tick-off state, and your cookie-consent choice — are saved using your browser’s local storage, not a cookie, and not a server. That data stays in your browser on your device: it is never transmitted to us, we cannot see it, and clearing your browser data clears it. Each feature says so on the page where it appears.
Third-Party Tools That Run Directly In Your Browser
- NHTSA recall lookups. The recall-check tool on owner hub pages calls the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s free, public recall API directly from your browser. Your request goes straight to NHTSA — it does not pass through our servers, and we never see the vehicle you looked up.
- Interactive maps. Trail and place pages use map tiles served by the USGS National Map and, as a fallback layer, OpenStreetMap contributors. Loading a map tile is a normal web request to those services, so, like any website request, they receive your IP address in the process. We do not control or receive data from either provider.
Cookies, Consent Mode & Tracking Technologies
We use a limited set of cookies, described in full in our Cookie Policy:
- Strictly necessary cookies/local storage that make the site function and remember your cookie choice. These do not require consent.
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4) — switched off by default. We use Google Consent Mode v2: no analytics cookie is set and no analytics ping is sent to Google until you actively accept via our cookie banner. Rejecting keeps analytics denied; accepting can be reversed anytime via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.
- Affiliate cookies set by retailers such as Amazon after you click one of our links. These let the retailer credit a qualifying purchase to us, are governed by the retailer’s own privacy policy, and add no cost to you.
We do not run advertising, remarketing or social-media cookies, and we do not use your analytics or browsing data for cross-context behavioral advertising. If that ever changes, this page and our cookie banner will say so first.
Affiliate Links & Amazon Associates
4x4 & Overlanding is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs. When you click a product link and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This is described in full in our Affiliate Disclosure. Amazon and other partners use their own cookies and tracking to attribute purchases; their handling of your data is governed by their privacy policies, not this one.
How We Use Information
We use the information described above to operate and secure the site, respond to messages and signups you send us, understand which content helps readers (only once you consent to analytics), and comply with our legal and affiliate-program obligations. We do not build advertising profiles about you, and we do not sell your personal information.
US State Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA And Other State Laws)
If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law in effect, you generally have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, request its deletion or correction, and opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of in that sense — but you can still exercise your other rights by contacting us. Where you have enabled the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser or extension signal, we honor it as an opt-out preference signal for analytics on this site.

Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International Visitors & Cross-Border Transfer
4x4 & Overlanding is operated by 7Arx from Queensland, Australia, for a US audience, and is hosted and processed using US and global infrastructure providers (currently Netlify for hosting/forms and Google for analytics, once you consent). By using the site you understand that your information may be processed in the United States, Australia, and other countries where our providers operate.
Note for Australian readers: the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles may apply to how the operating business handles personal information depending on its structure and turnover. If you have a concern that is not resolved after contacting us, Australian residents can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Data Retention & Security
We keep aggregated analytics only as long as it is useful, hosting logs only as long as Netlify’s standard retention applies, and any message or signup you send us only as long as needed to handle your request or, for the checklist list, until you unsubscribe. We use reasonable technical measures to protect the limited data we hold, though no method of transmission over the internet is ever completely secure.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no industry-standard response to it, so we do not currently respond to DNT signals specifically, but we do honor Global Privacy Control as described above, and we keep tracking minimal, consent-gated and non-identifying regardless.
Changes To This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be reflected on this page, and your continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
