Silverado and Sierra: What the Twins Share
Both 2027 trucks offer the same four engines: an enhanced 2.7L TurboMax, new 5.7L and 6.6L V8s and the Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel (305 hp, 495 lb-ft), according to Chevrolet's and GMC's announcements. The shared hardware shows up in recalls too. NHTSA campaign 25V274, for connecting rod and crankshaft defects in the 6.2L V8, covers the 2021–2024 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 along with the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Yukon XL and Escalade, 597,571 vehicles in all.
That is why many suspension, skid-plate and recovery parts list both nameplates. The brands differ where you can see them: hoods, grilles, front fascias and trim-specific bumpers. GMC gives the AT4X a unique hood, and Chevrolet gives the 2027 Trail Boss and ZR2 their own off-road hoods, so front-end accessories are the ones most likely to be brand- and trim-specific. The 2027 Generation Change
Chevrolet calls the 2027 Silverado 1500 “next-generation” and expects it on sale at the end of 2026. GMC released full 2027 Sierra 1500 specifications in September 2026. Both get new exterior designs and the new 5.7L and 6.6L V8s, and Chevrolet now pairs the TurboMax with a 10-speed transmission. Until an accessory maker lists the 2027 model year, don't assume a part made for a 2019–2026 truck bolts on. Bumpers, grille-mounted lights and sensor cutouts are the parts most likely to change.
Lifted Trims: Trail Boss, ZR2, AT4 and AT4X
Every lifted GM full-size trim starts 2 inches higher than a standard truck, so a lift kit or leveling kit has to be listed for that trim. The trims also differ in shocks and lockers:
- Silverado Custom Trail Boss and Trail Boss (2027): 2-inch lift and 34-inch tires; the Trail Boss adds monotube shocks and a dedicated off-road hood. On the 2026 trucks, both Trail Boss versions have an automatic locking rear differential and the Autotrac two-speed transfer case.
- Silverado ZR2 (2027): 35-inch MT tires, front and rear e-lockers, and Multimatic DSSV dampers with jounce dampers.
- Sierra AT4 (2027): 5.7L V8 standard, 2-inch lift with monotube shocks and 34-inch all-terrain tires.
- Sierra AT4X (2027): Duramax standard, 2-inch lift with Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, 35-inch MT tires, front and rear electronic lockers and Baja drive mode. The AT4X AEV Edition adds AEV bumpers, skid plates and 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

Weight Ratings and Winch Sizing
WARN sizes winches from GVWR, not curb weight: minimum line pull is GVWR × 1.5. Chevrolet's 2027 Silverado 1500 figures show how much that moves with configuration:

Colorado: A Separate Mid-Size Truck
The Colorado is Chevrolet's mid-size pickup, with its own frame dimensions and ratings, so Silverado accessories don't fit it. Chevrolet rates the 2026 Colorado to tow up to 7,700 lb, against 13,300 lb for the 2026 Silverado 1500. Its 2026 off-road trims:
- Trail Boss: 2-inch lift, 32-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels, two-speed automatic transfer case with a transfer case shield.
- Z71: no factory lift, 32-inch all-terrain tires, four drive modes.
- ZR2: 3-inch lift, 33-inch MT tires on 17-inch wheels, Multimatic DSSV dampers and five drive modes including Baja.
- ZR2 Bison: built with American Expedition Vehicles, with 35-inch MT tires, 12.2 inches of ground clearance and five boron steel skid plates.
GM's 2023 spec sheet puts the Trail Boss's front track at 66.2 inches against 62.6 on the Z71, so fender flares and wheel spacers made for one may not suit the other. For owner notes, see the Colorado and Canyon owners hub.
Check Recalls Before Buying Parts
Recalls on these trucks range from single-supplier campaigns to GM-wide ones. NHTSA's 2024 Silverado list includes 24V626, in which the equipment maker OEM Systems recalled a rear bumper mounting bracket that may not be strong enough for towing. Run your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls before adding a hitch, bumper or recovery point, and read the Silverado and Sierra 1500 owners hub for model-specific notes.
