Maxxis is the brand name of Cheng Shin Rubber, founded in Taiwan in 1967 as a bicycle-tire maker. Its US operation began in 1985 at a distribution facility outside Atlanta. It moved to Suwanee, Georgia, in 1987, and the Suwanee office now runs North American corporate functions and marketing. Maxxis opened a research and development center in Norcross, Georgia, in 1999 and moved it to Suwanee in 2006. Maxxis calls both Razr tires its flagships and says both draw on its off-road racing work.

Razr AT
Maxxis lists four features for the Razr AT:
- an off-road compound with chemical fillers for tear resistance and tread life;
- dual-cord casing technology for casing strength;
- an "armor" sidewall design for sidewall traction and puncture resistance;
- 3D tread blocks and bridge reinforcements to cut pattern noise.
Maxxis also marks it M+S and Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake certified at the model level.
The size chart splits cleanly by construction. The 18 P-metric sizes (nine SL, nine XL) carry 12-13/32in of tread. Twelve of them are T speed-rated (118 mph), three are S (112 mph) and three are H (130 mph). All 43 LT-metric and flotation sizes carry 15/32in of tread. Of those, 32 are Load Range E, 10 are F and one, the 31x10.50R15LT, is Load Range C. Most LT-metric sizes are S-rated. The flotation sizes are Q (99 mph) or R (106 mph).
Only the passenger sizes carry a UTQG grade, because 49 CFR 575.104 applies to passenger-car tires. Most are 600 A B. The three H-rated sizes (225/60R17, 235/65R17 and 225/65R17) are 600 A A. Traction is graded from locked-wheel wet braking: an A beats a coefficient of 0.47 on asphalt and 0.35 on concrete. Maxxis's own warranty notes that the traction test covers straight-ahead braking only, not cornering.
Razr MT
Maxxis calls the Razr MT its flagship DOT-approved mud-terrain. It lists deeply sculptured center blocks that Maxxis says maximize off-road traction while keeping the ride quieter. It also lists the armor sidewall, the chemically filled off-road compound and dual-core body-ply technology. The page makes no severe-snow claim, and Maxxis's mileage chart doesn't include the Razr MT.
The chart has 44 listings covering 41 sizes on 15-22in wheels: 24 flotation and 20 LT-metric. All 24 flotation listings carry 19/32in of tread, and the LT-metric sizes carry 17-19/32in. Load Range E covers 28 listings, F eight, C five and D three. Every size is Q-rated, which caps sustained speed at 99 mph. The four 15-inch flotation sizes are all Load Range C, from 33x12.50R15LT at 108 (2,205 lb) to 33x10.50R15LT at 114 (2,601 lb).
Reading Load Index and Speed on Razr Sizes
Maxxis defines the load index as the maximum load each tire is designed to carry at its maximum inflation pressure. It says replacement tires should match or exceed the original equipment's speed rating and load capacity. Goodyear's published charts convert the indexes on Maxxis's Razr charts to pounds:

The two 265/70R17s are 441 lb apart per tire on paper. On a pickup the gap is larger. FMVSS 120 requires a passenger-car tire's rating to be divided by 1.10 when it's fitted to a truck or multipurpose passenger vehicle. That leaves the XL version at about 2,505 lb per tire, 692 lb short of the LT version. The two 35x12.50R18LT Razr MTs show that one size can come in two load ranges, 551 lb apart per tire. Two Load Range F tires can differ even more: the 33x12.50R20LT and 37x13.50R20LT are 970 lb apart.
The speed letter matters when switching from a passenger all-terrain. A Razr MT or a Razr AT flotation size rated Q replaces a T-rated factory tire at a 99 mph limit instead of 118. Maxxis says the vehicle's speed must then be restricted to the replacement tire's rating, and it advises against mixing speed ratings on one vehicle.
Maxxis Warranty Terms
Maxxis's automotive limited warranty covers the original purchaser of a Maxxis radial passenger or light-truck tire, installed by the dealer at purchase, in the size and load range the vehicle maker recommends. A claim can be made until the tread reaches 2/32in or six years (72 months) from the tire's manufacture date, whichever comes first.
- First 50% of treadwear: a tire with a covered defect is replaced with the same or a comparable new Maxxis tire at no charge except labor and taxes.
- After 50%: Maxxis gives a credit equal to the percentage of usable tread remaining. The last 2/32in doesn't count as usable tread.
- Mileage warranty: the charge is miles received divided by miles warranted, times the current suggested retail price. A Razr AT LT tire that wears out at 40,000 miles costs 80% of that price. On P-metric sizes (60,000 miles), the same 40,000 miles works out to about 67%.
Maxxis's booklet text describes the treadwear warranty as applying to P-metric sizes only. Its mileage chart on the same page lists 50,000 miles for Razr AT LT sizes, so ask the dealer to confirm LT coverage in writing.
Every claim needs the original receipt plus installation and rotation records showing rotation every 5,000-7,500 miles. The exclusions include:
- road hazards;
- racing or other competition;
- irregular wear from snow or ice chains, spinning or misalignment;
- puncture sealants;
- tires bought on the internet anywhere other than the Maxxis eStore.
Commercial vehicles are not eligible for the mileage warranty.
