TL;DR
- The Scorpion All Terrain Plus is Pirelli's off-road-focused all-terrain for 4x4s and pickups. It is 3PMSF on every listed size except the two V-rated sizes, 245/45R19 and 295/40R20.
- The Scorpion ATR is the older, mostly passenger-size all-terrain, with sizes from 15in to 22in and no severe-snow rating on any size.
- Both carry a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty. Only the All Terrain Plus (and its ELECT version) qualifies for Pirelli's 60-day trial.
- On an electric vehicle, Pirelli honors mileage coverage on non-ELECT tires at up to 80%.
- Pirelli doesn't publish tread depth or LT load ranges for these tires, so compare load index and speed rating instead.
Giovanni Battista Pirelli founded the company in Milan in 1872 as G.B. Pirelli & C., to make elastic rubber goods. Its US tire business, Pirelli Tire LLC, is based in Rome, Georgia, and issues the US consumer warranty. Pirelli's current US warranty took effect on May 1, 2026. It also lists a Scorpion XTM All-Terrain at 55,000 miles, a newer line this library doesn't yet cover.

Scorpion All Terrain Plus
Pirelli says the All Terrain Plus is engineered for off-road performance on 4x4 vehicles and pickups. It lists:
- an aggressive tread pattern and sidewall;
- conical stone ejectors that keep the tread self-cleaning;
- large, irregular, sharp-edged blocks for slippery surfaces;
- shoulder blocks shaped for damage resistance;
- high-density siping for dry, wet and snowy grip;
- optimized contact-pressure distribution for mileage;
- low road noise.
Pirelli says the tire is rated for severe snow service and carries the 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake. Its per-size pages mark two exceptions, 245/45R19 102V XL and 295/40R20 110V XL, so the rating covers most sizes rather than all. Pirelli lists custom versions developed with Porsche and Rivian, and ELECT-marked sizes for electric and plug-in vehicles, including 275/65R20 116H.
The US catalog has 23 sizes on 16-20in wheels. Three of them (245/70R16, 265/70R17 and 275/65R20) come in both passenger and LT versions, for 26 listings in all. The 16 passenger SL and XL listings are graded 640 B A. The other 10 listings, nine of them marked LT, carry no UTQG grade and no published load-range letter, only a load index and speed rating.
Scorpion ATR
The Scorpion ATR is the older all-terrain that Pirelli still lists in its US catalog, built mostly in passenger sizes for crossovers and SUVs. Pirelli cites:
- a robust carcass and reinforced sidewall area;
- wide shoulder blocks;
- curved central grooves in a self-cleaning pattern;
- aquaplaning resistance and low rolling noise.
Its 20 listings in 17 sizes run from a 185/65R15 to LT275/50R22. Three listings carry no UTQG grade, including the ELECT-marked LT275/50R22 119H, and Pirelli lists an OE collaboration with Mercedes. Pirelli's per-size data marks every ATR listing without the snowflake.
The ATR's treadwear grades are lower than the All Terrain Plus's: 520 B A on most passenger sizes and 440 B A on the 185/65R15. Under 49 CFR 575.104 the treadwear number compares wear on a government test course, where a tire graded 150 wears one and a half times as well as a tire graded 100. On that course, a 640 grade implies about 23% longer wear than a 520. The traction B shared by both tires means a locked-wheel wet braking coefficient above 0.38 on asphalt and 0.26 on concrete, but below the 0.47 and 0.35 needed for an A. The temperature A means the tire completed the regulation's highest (575 rpm) test stage.
Load Index and Speed Rating on Pirelli Sizes
Because Pirelli publishes no load-range letters for its LT listings, the load index is the figure to compare. In 265/70R17, the All Terrain Plus comes as a passenger 115 T and an LT 121 S. Goodyear's load-index chart converts those to 2,679 lb and 3,197 lb per tire, 518 lb apart. On a pickup or SUV the gap is wider. FMVSS 120 requires a passenger tire's rating to be divided by 1.10 when it's fitted to a truck or multipurpose passenger vehicle, which leaves the passenger version at about 2,435 lb, 762 lb less than the LT.
The speed ratings are mixed. The All Terrain Plus's passenger sizes are mostly T (118 mph), with three H (130 mph) and the two V (149 mph) sizes that lack the snowflake. Its LT listings are S (112 mph), T or R (106 mph). Pirelli's warranty excludes damage from misapplication, including an insufficient speed rating or load index. It also excludes tires that are undersized or oversized for the vehicle.
Pirelli Warranty, Trial and EV Terms
Pirelli's limited warranty covers tires used mainly in the US and Canada. It runs until the tread wears to 2/32in or six years from purchase, whichever comes first.
- Free replacement: within the first year or the first 2/32in of tread, whichever comes first, a defective tire is replaced free, including mounting and balancing.
- Prorated replacement: after that, the owner pays the percentage of usable tread worn times the current dealer price.
- Treadwear: a replacement tire that wears out early is billed at the percentage of warranted mileage used. An All Terrain Plus that reaches the wear bars at 35,000 miles is billed at 70% of the current dealer price.
Treadwear claims have conditions:
- the original invoice showing the odometer at installation;
- rotation at least every 5,000-7,000 miles, recorded by an authorized Pirelli dealer;
- even wear, with no more than 2/32in difference across the tread.
Rear tires on a staggered fitment get 50% of the mileage. Non-ELECT tires on an electric vehicle are honored at up to 80%, so an All Terrain Plus on an EV is effectively warranted for 40,000 miles. Pirelli recommends ELECT sizes for EVs instead.
The 60-day trial covers a set of four eligible replacement tires, and the Scorpion All Terrain and its ELECT version are on the list. Within 60 days of purchase or the first 2/32in of wear, the set can be exchanged for a different set of Pirelli tires. If no other Pirelli line fits the size, the price is refunded less taxes and fees.
The warranty excludes:
- road hazards;
- any form of racing or high-performance driving event;
- damage from recapping, regrooving or "the studding process";
- tires on vehicles registered or operated outside the US or Canada;
- passenger tires used commercially.
