The Technology Bridgestone Highlights

Bridgestone's product page names three features. Precision Saw Tooth Edges are staggered shoulder blocks plus a traction-focused center rib, aimed at off-road grip. Full-depth 3D sipes are meant to keep biting edges and tread stability on wet and wintry roads as the tire wears. ENLITEN Technology, Bridgestone says, optimizes all-season performance, extends wear life and supports a quiet, comfortable ride. The page stresses comfort, wet and winter traction and tread life. It makes no specific mud or rock claims.

Passenger and LT Sizes in One Chart

The 37 sizes split into 20 passenger (non-LT) sizes and 17 LT sizes. Six passenger sizes are Extra Load; the rest have no load designation, which for a passenger tire means standard load. Every passenger size has 12/32" of tread. The LT sizes are deeper, at 14/32" to 16/32". 16 of the 17 LT sizes are Load Range E, and one, LT255/75R17, is Load Range C. There are no flotation sizes.

Two sizes come in both constructions, and Bridgestone's own data shows what the LT version adds:

The LT version is the same height but about 8 to 9 lb heavier per tire, with 3 to 4/32" more tread and a higher load index. On Goodyear's load index chart, index 115 is 2,679 lb and 116 is 2,756 lb per tire. Pick the load index and load range your door-jamb placard calls for. An LT tire isn't automatically an upgrade for a vehicle specified with passenger tires.

UTQG Grades: What Bridgestone Publishes

The passenger sizes are graded traction A and temperature B. Under 49 CFR 575.104, traction A means an adjusted wet braking coefficient above 0.47 on the government asphalt surface and above 0.35 on concrete. Temperature B means the tire completed the 500 rpm stage of the laboratory heat test but not the 575 rpm stage needed for an A. Bridgestone doesn't publish a treadwear grade for these sizes, so there is no UTQG treadwear number to compare with other tires. Its data marks the LT sizes' grades as "not required by federal law," because UTQG covers passenger car tires.

Speed Ratings and Wheel Sizes

The passenger sizes are T-rated (12, good for 118 mph on Goodyear's chart) or H-rated (8, 130 mph). The LT sizes are S-rated (11, 112 mph) or R-rated (6, 106 mph). By wheel diameter, the Ascent leans large: 20-inch sizes lead with 15, followed by 12 at 18 inches, 7 at 17 inches, 2 at 22 inches and one 19-inch size (255/55R19). There are no 16-inch sizes. Load indexes run from 105 on 245/60R18 to 129 on LT295/70R18.

Examples in the chart include 265/70R17, 275/60R20, 275/55R20 and LT285/70R17, up to LT295/70R18, LT305/55R20 and the 22-inch 275/50R22 and 285/45R22.

What the 3PMSF Rating Means Here

Under the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association's definition (TISB 37), the three-peak mountain snowflake means the tire reached a snow grip index of at least 1.10 against a standard reference tire in the ASTM F1805 traction test on medium-packed snow. It rates snow traction only, not ice. Bridgestone lists the certification at the model level, so the chart above shows every size as severe-snow certified.

Not to Be Confused With the Dueler A/T002

The Dueler A/T002 is a Bridgestone tire listed on its European sites, and it doesn't appear in Bridgestone's US catalog. For US buyers, the Dueler A/T Ascent is the Dueler all-terrain with a US size chart and warranty.

How the Ascent Compares

The Michelin LTX A/T2 matches the 60,000 mi warranty, but Michelin's page marks it Mud & Snow rather than 3PMSF, and it lists fewer sizes (14). Bridgestone Americas' Firestone Destination A/T2 has a 55,000 mi warranty across 34 P-metric sizes, mostly standard load, with no LT versions. Firestone's current page doesn't list a 3PMSF rating. The Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT 2 is the closest match in structure: 44 passenger and LT sizes, 3PMSF and a 55,000 mi warranty.
