What the Brand Says About the Tread

The tread design is covered by U.S. Patent D808,895 S. The brand describes an aggressive mud-terrain pattern with maximum traction and grip in the shoulder area, and says the tire keeps a smooth, quiet ride for daily driving. That ride claim is the brand's own; no public test rates tire noise across brands. Every size is marked M+S.

Size Coverage, From LT185 to 42 Inches

At the small end sits LT185/85R16, a narrow size rated 105/103N. At the top are 40x13.50R17LT, 42x14.50R17LT, 40x13.50R20LT. The chart also includes sizes on 24- and 26-inch wheels (33x12.50R24LT, 35x12.50R24LT, 37x13.50R24LT, 37x13.50R26LT, 35x13.50R26LT). Among this library's mud-terrains, only the Toyo Open Country M/T, Nitto Trail Grappler and Yokohama Geolandar M/T G003 also reach 24-inch wheels or larger.

Of the 36 rows, 14 are LT-metric and 22 are flotation. Load ranges are 20 E, 12 F, 2 D and 2 C. Toyo and Nitto both map load range to ply rating the same way: C is a 6-ply rating, D 8-ply, E 10-ply and F 12-ply. 37x13.50R17LT appears twice with different load indexes (131 and 135), so check which one a listing actually is.

Tread depth is 18/32in on the LT-metric sizes and the two 15-inch flotation sizes (31x10.50R15LT and 35x12.50R15LT), and 19/32in on the other 20 flotation sizes.

Flotation sizes measure under their name. The brand lists 35x12.50R17LT at 34.5in overall diameter, 37x13.50R17LT at 36.5in and 42x14.50R17LT at 41.5in. Use the published diameter, not the first number of the size, when checking fender clearance.

Which Federal Rules Apply

Most radial car and light-truck tires are built to FMVSS 139, but that standard exempts light-truck tires with 18/32in or more of tread. Every X-Comp M/T size is at 18/32in or 19/32in, so they fall under FMVSS 119 instead. Both standards require treadwear indicators that show when the tread is down to 1/16in. UTQG grades cover passenger-car tires only, so there's no treadwear, traction or temperature grade for this tire.

Load and Speed Ratings on the Biggest Sizes

The largest sizes don't follow a simple bigger-is-stronger pattern. The 42x14.50R17LT, the tallest tire in the chart, is Load Range C at 121Q, rated 3,195 lb. Both 40x13.50 sizes are Load Range E, at 131Q (17-inch, 4,300 lb) and 128Q (20-inch, 3,970 lb). Most of the 33- to 37-inch flotation sizes on 18- to 24-inch wheels are Load Range F. The 33x12.50R24LT is an F but rated only 106Q, or 2,095 lb.

Federal rules set the limit. Under FMVSS 110, the maximum load ratings of the tires on each axle must add up to at least the gross axle weight rating (GAWR) on the vehicle's certification label. Two 42x14.50R17LT tires give 6,390 lb per axle. Two 33x12.50R24LT tires give 4,190 lb.

For the most common sizes (LT265/70R17, LT285/70R17, LT265/75R16, LT285/75R16, LT275/70R18), every row is Load Range E with 18/32in of tread. LT265/75R16 and LT265/70R17 are 123/120Q (3,415 lb single, 3,085 lb dual). LT285/75R16 and LT285/70R17 are 126/123Q (3,750 lb single), and LT275/70R18 is 125/122P (3,640 lb single). The second number applies when the tire runs as a dual on a dually rear axle.

Speed ratings are Q, N, P. Toyo's speed legend puts Q at 99 mph, P at 93 mph and N at 87 mph; the N-rated size is LT185/85R16. Goodyear advises replacing tires with an equal or higher speed rating than the originals, so check the rating against the tire the vehicle came with.

When the Brand's Own Sources Disagree

The brand publishes specs in two places that don't match: the xcomptires.com product page (dated September 2026) and a 2026 media deck. The deck lists deeper tread (19/32in to 20/32in) and lower load indexes on several sizes. LT285/70R17, LT285/75R17 and LT315/70R17, for example, show 121/118 in the deck against higher figures on the product page. The product page also adds sizes the deck doesn't list, including LT185/85R16, 33x12.50R24LT and 35x13.50R26LT.

This library uses the xcomptires.com page because it's the newest and most complete. Load index is a safety spec, so confirm the load index and load range printed on the exact tire you buy.

Warranty Terms and Rivals

The warranty chart lists the M/T's mileage coverage as NA. The written terms cover:

• Workmanship and materials: free replacement for the life of the original tread less 2/32in, measured in the fastest-wearing groove.
• Road hazard: free replacement for irreparable cuts, punctures, snags or impact breaks within the first 25% of tread or 2 years from purchase, whichever comes first.
• Satisfaction: a 30-day trial, or the first 2/32in of wear, to exchange the set.
• Conditions: rotation, pressure and alignment checks every 6,000 miles, and no coverage for a tire more than five years past its DOT manufacture date.
• Repairs: tread-area punctures only, no larger than 1/4in. A repaired or retreaded tire loses its speed rating.

Toyo's Open Country M/T also reaches 26-inch wheels, with 84 rows and 18.3–21/32" (varies by size) of tread. The Nitto Trail Grappler covers 65 rows at 18.3–21/32" (varies by size). The BFGoodrich KM3 runs 18/32" across 55 rows. None of the three publishes a mileage warranty. The mud-terrain library lists them all.
